SECCOPA presentation at National Taipei University in Taipei

September 26, 2018

Prof. Dr. Michael Gebel held a presentation on „The transition from education to work and youths’ well-being: Insights from longitudinal data“ at the Graduate Seminar, Department of Sociology, National Taipei University in Taipei. In his talk he outlined how longitudinal data facilitate the estimation of causal effects but he also emphasized the role of assumptions to be made and requirements in terms of data quality. He gave an applied research example from ongoing SECCOPA research showing that experiencing unemployment during the transition from education to work has much more serious negative consequences for subjective well-being than experiencing initial temporary employment. Particularly, if labor market entrants find a permanent job after initial temporary employment, i.e. temporary jobs act as stepping-stones, this compensates for initial SWB losses.
